Getting support

What is the Maths support route at UCS and the role of Learning Services?

The guiding principles for developing your Maths skills at UCS are as follows. Initially, the required Maths skills will be introduced and explained by your course teams. They'll introduce the concepts and most importantly ground these within the discipline requirements.

After the topics have been introduced, and examples worked through by your course team, you are finding your are encountering difficulties, then you are advised to contact Learning Services.

We'd like you to email your request to learningservices@ucs.ac.uk, and where possible include information on your course name, and an example question you where you are encountering problems. We'll reply with some recommendations for existing online support material and suggested times for a support session.

In the mean time, you will find some self help resources on this web site. Including those listed by discipline and level (see the Faculty pages), as well as the resources below. We strongly encourage you to be proactive and access these resources. The online guides within the Faculty pages have been created after consultation with the appropriate course teams, and are based around assessment style questions.

There are a large number of teams at other UK HEIs who provide excellent online guidance and support for getting started with Mathematics and Statistics. I'd strongly recommend the Learning Enhancement Team at UEA.

Available (book) resources in UCS Ipswich Library

We'd just like to make you aware we have a large number of Maths support books which are available in the Library.

These have been purchased to support the needs from across the various course teams, and account for difference starting points. The book collection has been located with other academic skills resources, and are based in the PC Suite, near L107.

We'd encourage you to use these books as part of your self directed support. So once your lecturers have introduced and applied the maths, please pop across to the Library to access these resources.
