Online Courses

The Learning Services Team have identified a number of MOOCS (Massive open online courses) which will enhance you maths skills, confidence and knowledge. We have reviewed these courses, and will support you through via a number of face to face meetings based in the UCS Ipswich Library (a learning set).

These courses are designed and developed by other UK Universities, and are available free through the FutureLearn platform.

We will endeavour to alert students about these and other online courses as are released.

Title: Getting a grip on mathematical symbolism
Aims: This course is aimed at those who aspire to study science or engineering foundation courses at university level. It draws upon the experience of staff from the Mathematics Education Centre at Loughborough University - a centre that has specialised for many years in mathematics teaching and mathematics support for science and engineering students who find the transition to university mathematics particularly challenging.

Title: Preparing for Uni (study skills)

Aims: Higher education is about learning at a higher level: developing skills relating to critical thinking; holding a supported, substantive argument; analysing and using data or sources critically. These are university-level skills but you can work on the foundations of these skills before you get there. Such skills will also help in assessments such as A-levels and extended project work. They are also attributes that employers value in graduates.
